Collision investigators name man killed in crash on Northumberland road

Anthony James Houghton, who lived in the Blyth area, was a pedestrian when he was struck on the southbound carriageway of the A189 Spine Road between Bedlington and Bedside at the weekend.

Hide AdShortly after the collision, officers arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and she has since been released under investigation.
Specially-trained officers are currently supporting Anthony’s family at this time.
Inquiries into the collision are ongoing with officers appealing for any witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage from that stretch of road, urged to come forward as officers work to establish what happened in the lead up to the tragedy.
Sergeant Ray Lowery, from Northumbria Police Motors Patrols, said in a statement: “Our officers are supporting Anthony’s family at this difficult time and we ask their privacy is respected.

Hide Ad“The investigation remains ongoing and we are asking for anyone who was in the area of the A189 Spine Road near Bedlington Station and may have witnessed the incident to get in touch – especially if they have dash-cam fitted.”
